Clint our young 'Florida Blue' female is booked in to be euthanised tomorrow.
The depression around the spine and the broken ribs around the area appear to have taken their toll. These were evident when we got her over a year ago. She was doing great for ages eating well, active and a perfectly scatty example of her subspecies. As she grew so did the potential problems from the broken ribs.
They appear to have continued growth inwardly and now seem to be impeading her lungs and possibly other vital organs in the area of the injury. She has restricted muscle control and extreme dificulty breathing and stopped eating a month ago (losing 20g during this time). She's very lethargic.

Pics of the problem area -

We loved having her around. Lesson learned - do not take on snakes with broken ribs/noticeable depressions along the sides.

That's bad news, Greg. Faulty babies... always a risky choice.

It sounds like that's the best thing you can do for him. This is the part of caring for them that I don't like. Making that final decision. You are all in our prayers.
Best of luck tomorrow.

Sorry again for your pending loss.

Greg, I am so sorry to hear of your impending loss and "Clint's" loss of her fight. You are lucky to have cared for her and she to have had you. My thoughts are with you in the days ahead and hope you'll have fond memories.

Someday, I'll have to ask you how you came about naming her.
You are both in my thoughts this evening.

Thanks everyone. She was euthanised at 10.15 this morning and looks very peaceful. It was the best thing to do. Our new vet is turning out just great, very informative and definately has a passion for reptiles. He did a good job at putting my mind at ease.

We thought 'she' was a 'he' when we first got her  ... the name stuck :D
