my female Tina I have noticed has got a spot under her chin that is kinda brownish where the scales meet. one of the scales on her under body by her chin is almost slightly protruding outward. I took a couple pix, best i could with two hands (too bad we couldn't grow an extra one)

please let me know if it's serious or anything to be worried about etc...

Thanks, Nick

Check for a retained belly scale from shedding.
I have a het. albino checkered with the same looking thing.
I'm treating with Silver Sulfadiazine. You can also use triple antibiotic ointment.
Something to keep an eye on or have a Vet. check out.

I don't see any retained belly scale.
a vet visit it way out of my budget unfortunatly.
what exactly is Silver Sulfadiazine and how is it aquired if it is needed?

We got it from a doctor around here, it was used to treat my nephews skin problem. Amazon has it also for 11 USD, I don't know if it's the kind you can use on snakes but it looks like the same container we had got for my niece :)

Amazon.com: Thermazene 1% Silver Sulfadiazine Cream 50 grams, Each: Health & Personal Care: Reviews, Prices & more (http://www.amazon.com/Thermazene-Silver-Sulfadiazine-Cream-grams/dp/B0008KLQNM)

You may also try to give him regular baths with PVP-Iodine in water for a while.

! The snake will become yellowish, but itīs only a coloring of the skin, thatīll be gone with the next shed !

Will the pvp-iodine hurt her if that's not what is wrong? And is that just available at the drug store.

Is it possible that the snake has gotten its head stuck somewhere at some point?

It should be avaliable in a drugstore or pharmacy.
I use one spoon in a pint of warm water sometimes also precautionary.

She could have gotten her head stuck, but it wouldn't of been anything heavy at all. the hide has enough cypress mulch under it that they can slither under neath without any problems. She loves to burrow though, mostly being under the mulch.

and good news. i just looked at her now, and it doesn't look half as bad as it did yesterday. which is good.

I kinda looks like she might have went in reverse (pulled her head backwards) during her burrowing and damaged the scales that way. Is there any sort of material wedged in there?

At any rate, it doesn't look too serious. At least not at this time.

Well it hasn't really changed much since, here's a pic from today that i took (highlighted part is problem part)

Can damage that that happen from reversing. And will that go away after her next shed. I've stopped feeding them (mind you only the one female has been eating lately) to git them ready to brumate. I'm hopefully going to be moving as of December 1st, well gitting the keys to my own place then, moving wouldn't be till the following weekend. and then I'm going to figure out what I'm going to do about brumating them.
But ConcinnusMan if you think that it's not serious and that it's just from reversing then I won't be worried as much.
Thanks all

Is there any sort of material wedged in there?

There doesn't seem to be anything but maybe a tiny bit of dirt, it doesn't pain her to touch it or anything.

Either way, a little iodine swab and/or antibiotic ointment for a while can't hurt.

ok sounds good I will try that this week, and to keep her in a separate container for a short bit after i swab her is ok. just so that it doesn't just wipe off or something.

well she is in blue stage of shedding, so by the end of the week she should have shed and we'll find out about the questioned area.

ok well here's the last update, she has shed and the questioned area has washed away with her old skin :)

You know, I didn't notice it before but now I know you were using gardening variety cyprus mulch. I know you've changed it now but cyprus mulch is essentially a bunch of stiff spintery material that is not absorbent or clean at all. This is no doubt how this happened.

Yes you could be right, more than likely.

Like I was saying before, he probably just dug in, and backed out. That probably caused one of those substrate splinters to get jammed under the scale. I'm glad that it turned out OK and there is no serious injury.

yes nothing serious, and it looked like dirt... not a splinter...
