Two babies in a 20 gallon?

Hello, all! I am new to the site, and new to garters. I am going to be getting two baby neon red-sideds (sooo excited!!), and was thinking of raising them together in a 20 gallon that I already have. I am wondering if this is acceptable, or if it may be a bit too big for the little guys..
I am going to be buying another tank for the snake currently residing in the 20-gallon, so thought it would be convenient to house them in the 20-gallon (after santizing, of course) until they are adults, then transfer them to a 40-gallon.

    Thanks!

Sure, as long as they are coming from the same place. If coming in from separate places you'll need to keep them separated for at least 60 days to make sure they are healthy. Just make sure you have an escape-proof lid on it, they can get through the tiniest crack never to be seen again.

Welcome. Be sure to introduce yourself in the "welcome lounge" so we can give you a proper hello.

A 20 gal isn't too big in my opinion. It should provide a nice big living space for them to explore.
It sounds like you probably know but a 1 to 10(bleach to water) part bleach solution will do a very good job sanitizing their new home.

Also, if they're not the same sex, I would aim to keep them separated.

There's no such thing as "too much space" for a garter. Just provide lots of cover and stuff for them to hide under, climb and explore. Garters will use as much space as you give them.

Alright! I read somewhere that they wouldn't feel as secure with too large of an enclosure. But that is also why I want to house them together.

I have one scrub in a 10 gallon. She is on the move constantly. 20 for 2 would be nice.
