Going herpng in Eugene for 1st time this spring

New to the forum (member of fb group pointed me here)

I am looking to own some garters this year. (Might catch some might buy some also)

I haven't been herping since i was a kid down in southern oregon. I have accidently come across garters here before but never went out intentionally looking for them.

I know we have some very pretty snakes here. It will be fun to go looking this spring. Anyone have any recommended places to look?

I haven't gotten the chance to explore Eugene a whole lot. My son is a little bigger now and showing more interest in reptiles and loves the outdoors so I am excited to explore and herp with him. An my husband finally gave me permission to get a few garter snakes for my birthday in June! (May need a wild tank... And a captive bred tank <3 looking forward to the bioactive builds)

For garters edge habitat is always your best bet, powerline cuts, marshy fields, grassy openings in the forest, etc.
