    Look what I found!

Found the prettiest little Red Striped Ribbon baby near our pond this morning! She's about 8 inches long.

This is what got me into garter snakes. My son and I were walking around our pond a little over a year ago and saw a red striped ribbon. I didn't know what it was at first. We tried to catch it but no luck. Then I started doing research and figured out what it was and discovered garters along the way. We now have one Albino Checkered and two Valley Garters. I'm also looking for an Eastern Blackneck or two, they are native to Central Texas as well, so hoping I'll come across one someday. We have lived here for about 12 years and the red stripe ribbon we saw last year was the first time I had ever seen one. It was about a foot and half long or so, then a few months later I saw one in the pond and it was probably about 3 feet long. Anyway I am soooo excited to have found this little darling. Every time I walk up to her viv she comes right up to the glass and looks at me. So cute.

And just for fun. Here's my checkered.

So I'm going to give her a few days to settle in before trying to feed her, but do you think I should start with chopped nightcrawlers? Or since she's wildcaught, should I start with a minnow or two from the pond? I know that's not something you're supposed to feed normally, but since she's wildcaught I thought it might be easier for her at first.

Try fish scented night crawlers or some fresh tilapia.
