Question Which snake/s in which tank?

I have three(i fear soon to be two) three day old garters and their mommy garter, caught wild(unkown age), approx. 16in. I have a 30"L X 12"W X 13"D tank and a 13"L X 7"W X 10"D tank. How should i divvy up the snakes, and when if ever should i change it up? Also, does anyone have any thoughts on releasing the mother back to the wild, since she is understandably anti-social? The three or two surviving babies ill keep and raise in captivity. Thanks in advance.

for now, the mother in the big tank and the babies in the little one
if the babies are males, you might be able to keep them in the larger one eventually, but it might become tight for the mom because she's not fully grown, and if any of the babies are females they also have the potential to outgrow that tank
I've got a couple of small males in that size tank, but also another larger male who's got one of those to himself
garters like to move around, so you need to give them space to do that
the little tank is great for babies, but not for long
I'll let others present their views on releasing the snake
