I'll probably make two or three cozy hiding spots with water and worms, hopefully that will work.
That string-idea was interesting. I like it. However, wouldn't it be possible for the snake to just regurgitate the string and bait?

yes. but It would also pose a serious health risk to the snake.... string + digestive tracts = really bad idea. I would definitely NOT go with that method.
