    Be careful of identification keys that rely strictly on pattern and/or color. They are often correct but oddball specimens do exist.

    As far as your garter, the image you have wants me to log into some "Windows Live Storage" thing. So I can't see it. Not that I would be able to identify it anyway, I'm not too knowledgeable on Texas herps.

    That looks like a checkered to me! checkereds also have black blotches behind their head and necks similar to blacknecks. Actually my boyfriend just commented to me yesterday how much the checkereds that were just born here resemble a blackneck with their crisp patterns and black tiger markings on their necks!!!

    darnit ....i thought it was a cross beed caus both checkers and blacknecks are in my area and i havent seen one with blotches before...ill post more pics
