Glad you were there to help out. That is not an unusual situation when feeding groups. I have some very docile, calm snakes who turn into wild eating machines when it's food time. They become these crazed eaters and everything is fair game.
When this sort of thing happens on the Ranch I just release the jaws(push forward on the prey and open the jaws) of the eater and pull the swallowed one out.

It takes some practice but 2 hands do nicely.
