A good place to start is with the care sheet.
When you do get a garter you'll be well prepared.
The first Canadian breeder(forum member) that comes to mind is HazAnga(Nick)
I'll put a link to his page in case you want to contact him.

Yea, the care sheet is great! I think that's how I ended up here in the first place. I did try to contact him a little while ago through his site, but haven't got a reply. Just assumed he was out of babies . Thanks for the info!!!

Finding a canadian breeder without waiting lists are very troublesome then the laws come into play too. I have 7 garters, 5 of them I technically can't keep because they are wild and native to this area. But they were caught as newborns and well taken care of.
I don't think I'm stealthy enough to catch one! The only one I've ever seen around here was roadkill on a street beside a ravine! I used to always go in there to see what critters I would find and the wildest thing I've ever seen is probably a tie between a frog and a dead turtle. LOL! Any tips?

I've actually found a reptile shop that has two in stock! They have a regular checkered ($59) and an albino checkered ($69). I haven't got a chance to check them out, but I'm wondering if I should just wait til the "Canadian Reptile Breeder's Expo" coming up in September. I figure if there's anywhere I would be able to find one, it would be there.
