    yes.... I had two sirtalis die like that this year

    my guess is that they bite themselves because they are in some sort of pain, and they are biting where it hurts as if to bite an "attacker"?

    My conclusion as well, but there's also a possibility that it's just a result of the spasms. This is something that my male did right before it died. Considering that I never got him to bite (or musk, or poop on) me, even when I was inspecting and cleaning his wounds, the pain must have been unimaginable. But since I saw how he bit himself (looked like he had zero control of his muscles, including the jaw muscles), I'm inclined to believe that it wasn't because of the pain.

    I had not seen that before. I have had once that a snake died and has substrate in his mouth. I think that this was also because of spasms...
